No Preciousness Here
There are times to put aside the preciousness, and as the band Rush said, get on with the fascination.
After the recent snows in the New Jersey, I saw a couple of brave souls driving around in their 8th-generation Corvettes. Sleek machines getting salt and grime encrusted on them. It would be easy to keep them in the garage for the winter, but where’s the fun and curiosity in that?
I sort of feel the same way about social media. For a good long while, I was precious with using socials, staying above the fray while watching its use—actually, misuse—tear society apart. I wanted no part of it whatsoever.
Then, my circumstances changed. And by necessity, I had to change my tune on social media. I had spent too much time actually hiding away, and now had to come out of the shadows. But, how could I do that, and stay in integrity with myself?
I got curious.
Could I be on social media, in an intentional and concentrated way? Without succumbing to doomscrolling? So far, I think I’m succeeding. I treat socials as information-gathering and thought generation. I see something interesting, something nutrient-dense for the mind and the spirit, and I note it for later.
And, I hope that what I post on my socials is nutrient-dense. I can’t judge that, but it’s the goal. And I’m still learning. How do Reels and Stories and Shorts work? Should I use a photo here?
The learning continues, and that’s the place I want to be. And the more channels I can use, intentionally, the more that will benefit me. And, ultimately, the clients I work with.
Being curious, and getting some grime on the car, will take me further than staying in the garage.
