The pressure to perform at work is enormous, and ever-present. But does it need to be that way, all the time.

The Super Bowl is the top of the top for any NFL team. They prepare, sacrifice and battle for the chance to hold the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of the game.

A lot of us approach our work the same way. But rather than a season of intense preparation, it’s every day.

Every single day.

No wonder so many of us are stressed out and burned out.

Our work demands so much from us. We are in a results-oriented environment, where hitting numbers and KPIs are the name of the game. Keeping up with the never-ending demands, and a sense of normalcy, are challenging.

It really can be break time for you

It’s not possible to perform at a high level all the time. Systems need breaks. You need a break, too. Sustaining your success is about understanding the rhythm of your productivity and your recovery.

The costs of neglecting this need are huge. Chronic stress, burnout, and health issues are becoming more common in our workplaces. These not only affect our careers,  but can also derail our personal lives.

When you take a periodic rest, what happens? Here are a few things:

A Sharper Mind for Better Results: Your brain is like a muscle. Just as a weightlifter needs rest days to build strength, you need breaks to recharge your mental focus. Rest can enhance your skills in decision-making, creativity, and problem-solving.

Reduced Stress and Improved Health: Constant stress takes a toll on your physical and mental well-being. Chronic stress can lead to anxiety, depression, and even physical ailments. Prioritizing rest, whether it's a midday walk or a real vacation (with no work!), helps manage stress levels, leading to a healthier, happier you.

Enhanced Resilience: Let’s put the ego aside for a minute. Taking breaks doesn't make you weak. In fact, it strengthens your ability to bounce back from setbacks. When you face challenges, a well-rested mind is better equipped to handle them.

Now, resting isn’t about putting your standards on the shelf. Integrating rest into your routine isn't about lowering those standards—it's about making sure you can show in a way that helps you, your team and those around you.

When you put the daily Super Bowl mentality on the bench, it helps you show up in a way that helps you, your team and those around you. You can play the game better, setting yourself up for great wins.
